National Park Service Expands Volunteer Hunter Opportunities

The Nationwide Park Service is increasing volunteer hunter alternatives for invasive species administration for certified volunteers and permitted individuals. In two Southeastern Parks, Jean Lafitte Nationwide Historic Park and Protect in Louisiana, and Cumberland Island Nationwide Seashore in Georgia, certified volunteer hunters may also help handle invasive nutria and feral hogs. All of that is in an effort to assist shield the vital wetland habitats, native wildlife, and cultural assets which are being negatively affected by invasive species. In Louisiana, volunteer hunters could also be requested to help in looking and trapping efforts to cut back the nutria and feral hog populations within the Barataria Protect. In Georgia, volunteer hunters could also be requested to take part in feral hog administration to mitigate the hogs’ impacts on areas similar to sea turtle nesting seashores and cultural websites.
